UPDATE2: Russia bans imports of goods, food from Ukraine

(Adds details in paragraph 4)

MOSCOW, Dec 29 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has banned imports of industrial goods, agricultural products, raw materials, and food from Ukraine in response to its sanctions, the government’s press office said on Saturday.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev earlier signed a ruling to ban imports of some Ukrainian goods in retaliation to sanctions restrictions.

“The ruling introduces a ban on imports to Russia of goods originating in Ukraine or moved across the territory of Ukraine, according to the approved list. The major volume of the goods for which the ban has been introduced is classified as industrial. The list also includes agricultural products, raw materials, and food,” the statement said.

The list includes wheat, beer, sunflower oil, canned vegetables and fish, bread, chocolate, wine, and confectionery goods, as well as turbines, except turbines for civil aircraft, transformers, gravel, crushed stone, limestone, furniture, and others.

“The Russian government may decide to abolish the introduced special economic measures if Ukraine abolishes restrictive measures introduced earlier against certain Russian goods,” the statement said.
